What it is like to worship with us:

We welcome you to the Gateway Church of Christ and want you to feel comfortable because we know an unfamiliar place can be awkward.  Hopefully, this will help you enjoy your visit with us.

Singing

At the beginning of every service, everyone is encouraged to sing. Instead of being just spectators, we love it when those attending are singing.  God loves it even more and enjoys hearing each of His children lift their voices in praise (Psalm 100; Colossians 3:16).

One of the unique things about the Church of Christ is that the music is "acapella".  We sing without the accompaniment of musical instruments.  This is a preference with us.  We feel that few things are more awesome than a room full of people singing with gratitude in their hearts.  If you have never heard acappella singing, we think you will learn to really enjoy it as we do.

Prayers

There will be several prayers during the service. These prayers will be lead by various brothers in the church and sometimes include petitions for special needs or requests.

Lord's Supper

We observe this memorial every Sunday.  Again, the reason is our desire to follow the New Testament teaching.  The first century church celebrated this observance on the first day of the week. During this part of the service, plates containing unleavened bread will be passed throughout the congregation. The bread symbolizes the body of Jesus.  Those partaking will take a piece and eat it.  Next, trays filled with small cups willl be distributed. The cups contain fruit of the vine , which is grape juice, symbolizing the blood of Christ.  Each participant will drink the contents of one of the cups.

The Lord's Supper is for those who are saved by Christ's sacrifice on the cross. If you do not participate, simply pass the tray to the person next to you.

Contribution

Next in the service, containers will be passed to collect the weekly financial offering.  As our guest, you are not expected to make a donation. We would like to encourage you to place the Communication Card you have filled out in the collection plate.

Children's Bible Hour (CBH)

Kids ages 3-4th grade have a special worship time during the sermon period. They learn the Bible at their level while dad and mom enjoy the preaching of God's Word.  All those going to C.B.H. first gather at the stage and sing together before being led to the room you passed coming into the Gym.  Skilled and qualified members lead this ministry.

Preaching

You will notice that the preacher does not have a special title. We won't refer to him as Pastor or Reverend.  He prefers to be called by his first name, John.  He'll be wearing everyday clothing. The reason for this is our belief in the priesthood of all believers.  That all are equal. The sermon will be refreshingly Bible-centered and approximately thirty minutes in length.

At the close of the worship celebration, feel free to stick around and chat with us, ask questions or request prayer from our leadership.
